North of Tyne Community Led Local Development (NT CLLD) was a locally managed funding programme that targeted selected areas in Newcastle upon Tyne & Wallsend to encourage local groups rooted in their communities to suggest, design and deliver projects that contribute to increased employment, develop businesses and improve opportunities to enhance local life.
Newcastle City Council secured £2.1m of European funding, to offer grants to organisations and deliver North of Tyne CLLD Strategy. Organisations, groups and businesses could apply for funding to deliver their projects supporting local people on their journey to employment or entrepreneurship and local businesses to grow.

Local projects needed to support the Objectives and fit into the Activities listed in the North of Tyne CLLD Strategy (full strategy can be found at the bottom of this page):
CLLD hoped to close the gap between the least and most well off neighbourhoods by ensuring that disadvantaged communities could access existing and new opportunities that were emerging as a result of significant investment in the local economy. The main beneficiaries of the CLLD funded projects were residents (mainly unemployed and economically inactive), local voluntary organisations and community groups as well as small to medium sized enterprises located in the CLLD area. Within these groups, the following were identified as priority groups:
- Social enterprises and VCS groups looking into setting up a social enterprise
- Women, especially those who have struggled with any kind of economic activity
- People from ethnic minorities
- People with disabilities (including people with mental health issues)
- Carers
- People who have never worked
- People who are between 50 and 64
