RHWE supported local people to take steps towards feeling confident, resilient and ready for work. Activities were delivered through a combination of experience based learning, workshops, 1-2-1 coaching and peer mentoring at a time and location to suit.

The ‘BEaT programme’ (Build, Empower and Transform) was a tailored package of coaching and skills development that encompassed stress/change management, making better life choices, basic skills, financial literacy and vocational options – in order to ‘beat’ disadvantage, raise employment and improve life opportunities.

The Big River Bakery offered small cohorts of people access to accredited training whilst working in their bakery, café or retail space. Participants could expect to gain a range of skills and experience as well as meeting other small businesses in the food and drink sector who will be looking for staff.

This project offered online or in-person learning and skills development @ CICT Learning at Lynnwood Enterprise Centre as well as IAG support from staff and mentoring from other learners. The project aimed to work with Refugees and Migrants who had English as a second language and provided ESOL classes as part of the project.

The Stitch Sisters Project was setting up a bespoke sewing studio at their base close to The Tyne. Participants received training from an industry expert in all elements of garment construction from pattern cutting to sewing and finishing garments. Participants were also supported to overcome other barriers to employment and link them to employment opportunities in the garment manufacturing industry as well as other relevant training/education and employment opportunities.

Steps Together enabled 140 unemployed and economically inactive multi-cultural women from the CLLD areas of Newcastle, often classified as ‘hardest to reach’ and furthest away from service provision, to build confidence, personal well-being, gain accreditation, self-esteem and improve economic prospects. Through taking part, women moved forward with their lives and into further training, employment or self- employment.

Provision of training (confidence/resilience building and basic work skills e.g. first aid, health & safety, safeguarding) and volunteering opportunities (in the Carnegie Building and other local community venues, including schools). Each participant developed and implemented a learning and development plan. Support was given to address such barriers e.g. childcare, access to benefits, applications for settled status.
